Villa lose at third placed promotion chasers Leicester as a shocking refereeing performance denies Villa a clear goal and the chance of a crucial victory. As a result Villa remain bottom, four points from safety with four points to play for and so need to win their final two games and to see Charlton and Preston lose theirs to have any chance of staying up on goal average.
Vic Crowe's Villa lose for the first time in three after the referee fails to spot and award Villa a legitimate goal that bounces back out of the breached net. Villa have now recorded two wins, four draws and eight defeats in Crowe's fourteen games in charge. As a result Villa make it six wins, thirteen draws and twenty one defeats in forty division two matches this season scoring 24 goals and conceding 62. However with two games to play Villa still have a mathematical possibility of staying up but need to win both their final matches and hope that relegation rivals Preston North End and Charlton Athletic lose theirs.

“I didn’t see the shot but our skipper David Nish tells me the ball definitely went in and it was a goal.”
Peter Shilton
“It would be better if I said nothing about this incident.
“But I think 27,000 saw a good Villa goal disallowed.”
Vic Crowe.
