Villa narrowly beat fourth division side Chester in the first round of the League Cup in a bad tempered match on the pitch and on the terraces as Tommy Docherty had to appeal for calm from the visiting fans.
Villa face Chester for the first time in competitive football, Chester become the 95th team that the Villa first team has played in League or Cup football.
Tommy Docherty's Villa beat fourth division Chester in the League Cup first round as Neil Rioch made his first appearance in the Villa squad aged 18 after arriving from Luton Town in July 1969 alongside his elder brother Bruce for a fee of ยฃ10,000.
