Keith Bradley

Player #511 for Aston Villa, Keith Bradley, played as a defender for the club.

Keith played for Villa between 1964-65 and 1971-72 making 143 appearances and scoring twice.

Keith was born in Ellesmere Port on 31 January 1946 and made his debut appearance for Villa on Saturday, 13 February 1965 aged just 19.

After being spotted and approached by Joe Mercer, Keith signed a professional contract at the age of 18 and spent ten years at the Villa, reaching the 1971 League Cup final at Wembley.

Sadly however during the 8 seasons that Keith featured at Villa Park it was an era marked by a conspicuous absence of success.

Keith’s time at Villa saw them spend his first 3 seasons in the bottom 6 of Division One and succumbing to relegation to the second division in the 1967-68 season.

Things would however worsen and Keith saw the club fall further - dropping into the Third Division in 1970-71.

That season, Villa registered their lowest ever league position - 4th in the third tier.

Happier times were to follow for both Keith and Villa after that nadir however and after securing the Third Division Title in 1971-72 won promotion back to the second tier.

Keith wouldn’t feature for Villa in their first season back in the second tier having played his final game for Villa on Saturday, 20 November 1971, still only aged 25.

Keith moved on to Peterborough United in November 1972.

Keith had played under Villa managers Dick Taylor, Tommy Cummings, Tommy Docherty and Vic Crowe.
