Pat McMahon
Player #542 for Aston Villa, Patrick McMahon known as Pat McMahon played as a midfielder for the club between 1969-70 and 1974-75 making 149 appearances and scoring 30 goals.
Pat was born in Croy, near Kilsyth on 19 September 1945 and he made his debut appearance for Villa on Saturday, 9 August 1969 aged 23.
Villa had signed Pat from Glasgow Celtic in July 1969 and he made 25 appearances, 3 as substitute, as Villa were relegated to the third tier under Tommy Docherty. By the point of their relegation Vic Crowe had been installed as Villa boss to replace the sacked Docherty and made Pat a core part of Villa’s side.
In 1970-71 Pat made 47 appearances but Villa would fail to win promotion and record their lowest ever league finish, the following season Pat was out of the side until February 1971 but returned for the run in as Villa were crowned champions and won promotion back to the second tier.
The 1972-73 second division campaign saw Pat back in the line up on a regular basis as he made 34 appearances, before 23 the following season and just two in 1974-75 as he made his final appearance for Villa on Saturday, 14 September 1974 aged 29 before moving on to Portland Timbers in March 1976 aged 30.
