Andy Lochhead
Player #551 for Aston Villa, Andrew Lorimar Lochhead known as Andy Lochhead played as a centre forward for the club between 1969-70 and 1972-73 making 154 appearances, scoring 44 goals
.
Andy was born in Milngavie on 9 March 1941 and he made his debut appearance for Villa on Saturday, 21 February 1970 aged 28.
Villa had signed Andy from Leicester City for £35,000 in February 1970 under Vic Crowe as the new Villa boss looked to rebuild the club after the disastrous reigns of Tommy Cummingham and Tommy Docherty.
The initial signs however were less than encouraging as Villa finished 21st and relegated to Division Three for the first time in their history whilst Lochhead failed to score in 12 games.
1970-71 started in similar fashion as Lochhead failed to score in the first 4 games of the season however enter Doncaster Rovers at Villa Park and Lochhead hit a brace as Villa squeaked a 3-2 win. Lochhead would go on to hit 13 goals that season and be Villa’s top scorer as they finished in their lowest ever position in League football.
1971-72 saw Lochhead really get into his stride and finish the campaign as leading for the second consecutive season (25 goals, 19 League and 6 League Cup) as Villa finished Champions of Division Three and promoted back to the third tier.
Division Two football proved to be a much greater challenged for Lochhead and after hitting 6 goals in 37 games he made his final appearance for Villa on Saturday, 28 April 1973 before moving on to Oldham Athletic in August 1973 for a fee of £15,000 aged 32.
Andy had played under manager Vic Crowe.
