Barrie Hole

Player #535 for Aston Villa, Barrington Gerard Hole known as Barrie Hole played as a midfielder for the club in 1968-69 and 1969-70 making 53 appearances, scoring 9 goals.

Villa had signed Barrie from Blackburn Rovers for £65,000 in September 1968.

Barrie was born in Swansea on 16 September 1942 and he made his debut appearance for Villa on Saturday, 14 September 1968 aged 26 under Tommy Docherty.

Barrie’s first season proved fruitful in front of goal even as Villa struggled - hitting 7 in 32 games that season.

His second season proved to be his final for the club and 2 goals in 21 appearances under firstly the outgoing Tommy Docherty and latterly Vic Crowe meant the new manager was looking elsewhere for his goals.

Barrie made his final appearance for Villa on Saturday, 21 March 1970 before moving on to Swansea City in July 1970 for a fee of £27,000 aged 27.

Barrie passed away on 25 March 2019 aged 76
