Villa draw with tenth placed Blackpool to sit twelfth in the table, ten points clear of the relegation zone and twelve points from the final promotion place as the improvement under Tommy Docherty is starkly defined. Villa had been bottom of the table, two points from safety when Docherty took over, but Villa had now drawn their last four to leave them with seven wins in thirteen second division matches under the new boss. The results however are only one side of the story with the football under Docherty best described as conservative, the aggression, fouls and booking counts up and time-wasting used as a clear tactic, but despite the concerns, Docherty's results are keeping Villa well away from the danger zone but seventeen games into his tenure there is widespread desire for the shackles to come off and for the football to mirror the manager's self confidence.
