Villa dominate first division Tottenham in the second round of the League Cup for much of the game. But a Martin Chivers hat-trick puts paid to any hopes of a morale boosting win for Tommy Cummings’ struggling side. In an exciting game, Villa hit the woodwork four times to Tottenham’s three and Pat Jennings had to make four excellent saves to keep Villa at bay but Spurs kept hitting Villa on the break to run out victorious.
