Villa record their first away point of the season but lose Mick Wright to a broken leg as Alan Deakin also needs stitches in a gashed leg but in better news Brian Godfrey scores on debut to leave Villa one of five clubs in joint 18th and out of the relegation places on goal average.
Tommy Cummings' Villa draw for the first time this season to make two wins, a draw and seven defeats in ten League games and their fifth without scoring. As a result Villa had now lost fifteen of their last twenty games.
Right back Mick Wright fractured his right leg during the match and was faced a long spell on the sidelines - perhaps not what he meant when he said he didn’t wish to play for the club again two weeks earlier.
Meanwhile, forward Brian Godfrey made a goalscoring debut for Villa aged 27 after moving from Preston North End Forward Brian Greenhalgh, 20, who had made the same move also made his debut. As did centre back Fred Turnbull, 21, after joining from Centre’64 club in August 1966.
Departing the scene was centre forward Barry Stobart who made his final Villa appearance aged 29 before moving on to Shrewsbury Town in October 1967. Stobart played for Villa between 1964-65 and 1967-68 making 53 appearances and scoring 20 goals.

🕔 | FT Ipswich Town 1-2 Aston Villa
On This Day
Lew Chatterley suffers injury after 23’ but remains on the pitch until hall time but his loss leads directly to Ipswich’s goals after the promotion chasers had been well held in the first half. Villa remain joint 17th in the table but are now only three points clear of the relegation places.
Tommy Cummings' Villa end a run of three successive victories with a seventeenth loss in their last twenty five games to make it five wins, a draw and nine defeats in fifteen League games so far this season.
