On This Day
Villa beat top six side Boro thanks to an own goal to win for only the third time in twenty second division games but Fulham also win to leave Arthur Cox’s side bottom of the table on goal average but having closed the gap to safety to a single point. But behind the scenes troubles rage with claim and counter claim over the future of the board and club.
Arthur Cox records a rare win in only the second game of his caretaker spell, Villa's first in nine games, as a result Villa now have three wins in the last twenty five games and make it three wins, seven draws and ten defeats in twenty division two games so far this season.
What they Said
"I think it would be shocking to see an old-established club like Villa taken over by an American syndicate.
“ I would rather see Villa brought back to their former glories by people in this country.”
President of the Football League, Leicester City's Len Shipman.
“I admit that my Villa ambitions are not over despite the fact that I have resigned from the Shareholders Association committee. But I am a bit dubious about these new developments.
“If the present directors had given us a clear picture of what they envisaged by making this statement [suggesting the club is for sale], I would know what attitude to take.
“But as far as I can see things have not changed.
“The men who would not have me on the Board when I last tried are still in the saddle, and until I know what their plans are I cannot make a move."
Harry Kartz.
