"Not so long ago I said [Brian] Godfrey had no place in my team plans.

“He set out to prove me wrong and today he did just that: I'm delighted.

“People have told me that a win today would have made all the difference to our confidence … but I wonder.

“It’s not just winning but how you win.

“A scrappy win does nothing to improve a team’s confidence.

“I have struggled myself in a struggling team - and it’s only when you play well and then collect both points that the confidence really starts to build up.

“It’s no use pulling a team apart if you haven’t got better players to come in.

“All we need is time - and patience from the fans a little longer.

“I’m convinced this is still my strongest side and they it will eventually come good.”
