Player #543 for Aston Villa, Thomas John Seymour Phillips known as John Phillips played as a goalkeeper for the club in 1969-70 making 17 appearances.
John was born in Shrewsbury on 7 July 1951 and he made his debut appearance for Villa on Saturday, 18 October 1969 aged 18.
Villa had signed John from Shrewsbury Town for ยฃ35,000 in October 1969 and he became the 65th custodian of the Villa goal in League and Cup football conceding 26 goals in his 17 appearances at a ratio of 1.53 whilst keeping 4 clean sheets.
With all but three of his appearances coming under Tommy Docherty, new boss Vic Crowe used John much more sparingly preferring John Dunn. As a result Phillips made his final appearance for Villa on Saturday, 14 February 1970 aged 18 before moving on to Chelsea in August 1970 for a fee of ยฃ30,000 aged 19.
