FA Cup Final winning goalscoring hero Billy Kirton scores a brace as Villa are held at Hyde Road on the final day of the season to record a 9th placed finish.

Villa recorded eighteen wins, six draws and eighteen defeats in their forty two division one games in 1919-20.

Although 9th place was well below the levels Villa had become accustomed to prior to WWI the disastrous start made by the team on the resumption of league football made such a finish scarcely likely as twenty one new players were bedded in over the season. Six of those players would also play their final game in 1919-20.

Villa's awful start (one win in ten and eight defeats) however was followed by as fine a run of results seen for many a year before - winning 14 of 24 games losing just 3 - before form wavered badly once again with eight defeats in their final 15 games, winning six including their record sixth FA Cup.

The emergence of Billy Walker, Arthur Dorrell, Dicky York, Frank Barson, Frank Moss, Billy Kirton and Tommy smart bades well for Villa's post war future.
