Villa record their second win in four and their second in the first eleven games of 1919-20.
Villa hand their fourteenth and fifteenth debuts in eleven matches.
Centre back Frank Barson makes his debut having joined from Barnsley aged 28 after much persuasion that he possessed sufficient quality to play for a club like Villa and arriving for a fee of £2,850 earlier this month,
Forward Billy Kirton makes his Villa debut aged 22 after joining from Leeds City for a fee of £500.
The impact of introducing two players of significant quality was plain to see as Villa's fortunes were immediately transformed. Adding those to the exciting young talents of York and Dorrell as well as the dependable quality of Stephenson and Wallace suddenly gave Villa a very different outlook.
Dorrell scores his second goal in as many games as Walter Boyman hits a hat-trick on just his second appearance.
Villa have now scored as many goals in their last two matches as they had managed in their first 9 games of the season.
Villa climb off the bottom of the table on goal average to sit 21st, one point from safety with Sheffield Wednesday, level on points, one place behind them classified 22nd.
