Tommy Weston
Player #229 for Aston Villa, Thomas Weston, known as Tommy Weston played as a left back for the club.
Tommy played for Villa between 1911-12 and 1921-22 making 179 appearances over his 7 seasons with the club.
Tommy was born in Halesowen, less than 10 miles from Villa Park, on 23rd August 1890 and made his debut appearance for Villa at the age of 21 on the 20th January 1912.
Villa had signed Tommy from Stourbridge FC in July 1911.
During his time with Villa, Tommy won the FA Cup twice in 1912-13 and 1919-20.
Tommy was an ever present in the 1912-13 campaign including the final held at Crystal Palace, London in front of a crowd of 121,919 who witnessed Villa vanquish Sunderland.
Tommy appeared in 5 games in the 1919-20 FA Cup campaign including the final at Stamford Bridge where Villa beat Huddersfield Town through an extra time goal from Billy Kirton.
Tommy had played his entire Villa career under the George Ramsay led Management Committee and like many footballers of his generation his career was interrupted by WW1.
Unlike others however, Tommy not only survived the hostilities but went on to have a footballing career equal to that of his pre-war days despite having lost 4 seasons in his prime.
Tommy made his final appearance for Villa on 11th March 1922 before moving on to newly promoted Stoke in August 1922 however he would retire from football soon after.
Tommy passed away in Stourbridge in 1952 aged 62.
