Andy Young
Player #276 for Aston Villa, Andrew Young, known as Andy Young played as a centre forward for the club.
Andy played for Villa between 1919-20 and 1921-22 making 26 appearances.
Andy was born in Darlington on 17 September 1896 and he made his debut appearance for Villa on 25 December 1919 aged 23.
Villa had signed Andy from Blyth Spartans in November 1919.
All of Andy’s appearances for Villa came in the League and so he did not feature in the successful FA Cup campaign including playing in the FA Cup Final victory over Huddersfield Town in front of a crowd of 50,018 at Stamford Bridge.
Andy’s most prolific season was his second in 1920-21 when he hit 5 goals in 13 appearances however with a forward line of Charlie Wallace, Billy Kirton, Clem Stephenson and Billy Walker, Andy wasn’t to make a bigger breakthrough in the first team and made his final appearance on 22 October 1921 before moving on to Arsenal in August 1922.
Andy played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.
Andy passed away in 1964 aged 68.
