Before this unexpected run Villa had lost just three of their previous 24 games, winning 14.
Villa's defeat proved a remarkable one, level at one each, Villa lost Jimmy Harrop to injury before the referee, with ten minutes remaining, awarded a penalty to Villa which Clem Stephenson once again missed, this time however Blackburn raced to the other end, won their own penalty and made no mistake scoring it to consign Villa to defeat against a side battling relegation.
Villa make it fourteen wins, five draws and thirteen defeats in their thirty two division one games this season.
Villa stay 10th in the table but are now joined by Bradford on 33 points.
