Player #270 for Aston Villa, John Hampson, known as Jack Hampson played as a midfielder for the club in a position then known as a half back.
Jack played for Villa in 1919-20 and 1920-21 making 15 appearances.
Jack was born in Oswestry on 28th December 1887 and he made his debut appearance for Villa on the 18th October 1919 aged 31.
Villa had signed Jack from Leeds City for a fee of ยฃ1,000 in October 1919.
Jack would make one appearance in the successful run to win the FA Cup in his first season, playing in the 2nd Round win away to Manchester United.
Generally however Jack would act as a back up player to the first team in the league making 8 and 6 appearances in his 2 seasons respectively.
Jack played his last game for Villa on 7th May 1921 aged 33 and moved on to Port Vale for a fee of ยฃ1,000.
Jack played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.
Jack passed away in Burslem, Stoke on Trent in December 1960 aged 72.
