Hubert Bourne
Player #263 for Aston Villa, Hubert Edgar Bourne, nicknamed Schubert, played as a forward for the club.
Hubert played for Villa between 1919-20 and 1920-21 making 7 appearances.
Hubert was born in Bromsgrove, just 17 miles from Villa Park, on 6th March 1896 and he made his debut appearance for Villa on the 1st September 1919 aged 23.
Villa had signed Hubert from Manchester United in July 1919.
Hubert played his final game for Villa on the 16th April 1921 aged 25.
Hubert was forced to retire from playing due to a knee injury however that wasn’t to be the end of his association with Villa.
Following his retirement Bourne began his coaching career in charge of the third team before becoming reserve team trainer.
Bourne went on to serve as Villa’s first team trainer for nearly two decades from August 1934 to June 1953 under successive managers Jimmy McMullan, Jimmy Hogan, Alex Massie and George Martin.
Hubert had played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.
Hubert passed away in Birmingham in 1965 aged 69.
