Jimmy Stephenson

Player #256 for Aston Villa, James Stephenson, known as Jimmy Stephenson, played as a winger for the club in the outside right position.

Jimmy played for Villa between 1914-15 and 1920-21 making 32 appearances.

Jimmy was born in New Delaval, Northumberland on 10th February 1895 and he made his debut appearance for Villa on the 26th September 1914 aged 19.

Villa had signed Jimmy from home town club New Delaval in April 1914 joining his Villa superstar brother Clem at the club.

He was largely used as a back up forward both before and after the Great War however he made most of his appearances for Villa alongside his brother Clem failing to appear together in just one of Jimmy’s appearances in 1914-15 and 1919-20.

Jimmy made his final appearance on 5th March 1921 before moving to Sunderland for a club record fee of £3,000 in May 1921.

Jimmy had played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.

Jimmy passed away in Newcastle in February 1958 aged 62.
