Player #227 for Aston Villa, Harold Horace Edgley, known as Harold Edgley played as a winger for the club in the outside left position.
Harold played for Villa between 1911-12 and 1919-20 making 85 appearances.
Harold was born in Crewe in 1892 and made his debut appearance for Villa at the age of 19 on the 23rd October 1911.
Villa had signed Harold for £50 from Crewe Alexandra in June 1911 however after a couple of games in the 1911-12 season he didn’t feature at all in the 1912-13 league season and for the following season he was initially loaned out to Stourbridge FC from September to December 1913 before returning and emerging as a first team regular.
Like so may players of the period Harold’s career was interrupted by WW1 but in 1919 he picked up where he left off helping Villa charge to the 1919-20 FA Cup win - their sixth win.
More misfortune struck Harold however as despite scoring in the semi final against Chelsea he missed the final itself due to a broken leg that he ironically sustained in the league fixture at Stamford Bridge - the very ground where the final itself would be held and the home ground of the club he’d just vanquished - Chelsea.
That game, on the 2nd April 1920, proved to be Harold’s last for Villa at the age of 28 and he moved on to Queens Park Rangers in August 1920.
Harold played his entire Villa career under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.
Harold passed away in Nottingham in March 1966 aged 74.
