Following the end of hostilities the Football League is reformed post WWI with Villa’s 1,025th League and FA Cup match coming 1,586 days or 4 years, 4 months and 3 days) since game 1,024. 

The Football League itself looks different as it is expanded to twenty two teams and for the first four months sees home and away fixtures being played on a head to head basis before games and opposition become more spread out from December onwards.

Clem Stephenson scored Villa's first League goal in 1,586 days but Villa lose at Roker Park. 

Full back Ernie Blackburn made his debut aged 27 despite having joined Villa from youth football.

Winger Dicky York also made his first appearance aged 20 having joined from Birchfield Rangers in March 1915 aged 15.

• Hubert Bourne scores his second goal in four but Villa lose a third consecutive game and for the fourth time in five as they are beaten by a last minute goal at Anfield.

• Forward Arthur Davis makes his Villa debut aged 19 after joining from Evesham FC.

• Billy Walker scored a brace on debut as Villa beat QPR in the FA Cup first round to win for the first time in three.

• Villa face Queens Park Rangers for the first time in competitive football, QPR become the 66th team that the Villa first team has played in League or Cup football and the first new opponent Villa have faced since playing Exeter City 81 games previously.

• Villa win for the first time in three to beat QPR in the first round of the FA Cup. 

• One game after one Villa legend moves on in Harry Hampton, another arrives as forward Billy Walker made his debut aged 22 after joining from Wednesbury Old Athletic in March 1915 as a 17 year old. 

• Walker became Villa’s eighteenth debutant in twenty three matches.

• Villa are held for the second time in three to leave them winless in the League so far in 1920. 

• Villa record their first goalless draw of the season.

• Villa make it eleven wins, three draws and ten defeats in their twenty four division one games this season.

• Before this unexpected run Villa had lost just three of their previous 24 games, winning 14.

• Villa's defeat proved a remarkable one, level at one each, Villa lost Jimmy Harrop to injury before the referee, with ten minutes remaining, awarded a penalty to Villa which Clem Stephenson once again missed, this time however Blackburn raced to the other end, won their own penalty and made no mistake scoring it to consign Villa to defeat against a side battling relegation.

• As a result Villa finish in 10th place, one place lower than in 1919-20 as the team once again struggled for form and consistency across the season. 

• Villa keep their 21st clean sheet in 47 games in 1920-21.

• Only four of the players who put five past Villa at Burnden Park in September were fielded by Bolton, whilst only five of the Villa team that day lined up.

• Winger Charlie Wallace plays his last game for Villa before moving on to Oldham Athletic later this month. Charlie had played 350 times for Villa, scoring 57 goals over his ten seasons with the club whilst winning 1909-10 League title, the 1912-13 FA Cup and the 1919-20 FA Cup. 

• Goalkeeper Sam Hardy - having kept goal for Villa 183 times - makes his final appearance before moving on to Nottingham Forest in August 1921.

• Jimmy Leach plays his final game for Villa aged 31 after 76 appearances over his six seasons with Villa before moving on to QPR in July 1922. 

• Centre forward Andy Young, 25, who would move on to Arsenal in August 1922 makes his final appearance for Villa after scoring eleven goals in his 26 games for the club.

• Forward Walter Boyman, 30, who would move on to Nottingham Forest later this month after 22 appearances and eleven goals plays his final game for Villa.

• Villa, badly let down by the International Committee who had weakened the team so the previous weekend are back to a full complement for the return fixture against Middlesbrough and the inevitable prevails as a team who had not scored in two, score as many goals in one game as they had managed in their previous six.

• Billy Walker scores his 7th goal in four games as Villa record successive victories to make it nine wins, a draw and six defeats in sixteen division one games.

• Liverpool luck in (when don't they) as they score with Villa temporarily down to ten, meanwhile their 'keeper Mitchell is cautioned for kicking Billy Walker after he had already put Arthur Dorrell out of action using "suspicious tactics" aka a punch in the head.

• Villa's point however allows them to move outright 6th in the table.
