"Throughout the first half every inch of ground was stubbornly contested, but the defence of either side proved equal to all attacks."
*The Sporting Life*
Monday, 26 March 1900
ASTON VILLA V. LIVERPOOL
These teams met at Aston Lower Grounds, last Saturday. Both clubs were the best at the command of the club officials, and to specially fit them for the game, Liverpool had undergone a week’s training.
Throughout the first half every inch of ground was stubbornly contested, but the defence of either side proved equal to all attacks.
The interval arrived with no points registered.
The home forwards played with a greater amount of dash on the change of ends, and eventually Devey beat Perkins.
Liverpool strove hard to equalise, but failed to get on terms.
Result: Aston Villa, one goal; Liverpool, nil.
