"Excitement now ran high, the Leaguers making a tremendously big effort to equalise, but the Millwall defence prevailed, and the Southerners won, after a grand game, by two goals to one."

THE ENGLISH ASSOCIATION CUP.
RE-PLAYED TIE.
ASTON VILLA V. MILLWALL ATHLETIC.
MILLWALL WIN BY TWO TO ONE.
These teams met yesterday at Reading to decide the question of supremacy in the English Cup competition. It was their third meeting within a fortnight, the first occasion being at Millwall, when the result was one goal each. At Birmingham last Wednesday, it will remembered, though extra time was played, nothing could be scored. Yesterday, however, surprise was created when the “Dockers” succeeded in knocking out the noted League team, and qualifying to meet Southampton in the semi-final. This will be the first time for seventeen years that a Southern club has figured in the final the English Association Cup competition.
The Elm Park Ground at Reading was filled to its utmost capacity yesterday, and those who were present saw a grand and exciting game. Millwall were at their full strength, but Cowan, Crabtree, Wheldon and Smith were absent from the Villa team, their places being taken by Wilkes, Noon, Johnson, and Templeton.
MilIwall started the game, and after a brief incursion by the Villa the Southerners attacked, and forced corner. The game was fast, Templeton making several fine dribbles, but Millwall did the bulk of the pressing.
After the game had been in progress fifteen minutes, the referee, Mr. Lewis had to retire for a while, he receiving a nasty hit on the face with the ball.
Then, following a comer kick, Goldie got possession, and passing to Banks, who opened the scoring for Millwall amid much enthusiasm.
Five minutes later Gettins with a long shot got past Evans.
The Villa now attacked vigorously, and Templeton struck the upright with a good shot.
The Millwall forwards now were getting the upper hand, Gettins playing a fine game, and at half time Millwall still led by two goals to none.
After their rest the game was resumed with renewed vigour. Templeton soon put in a brilliant run, but was pulled up by Cox.
Devey was next in evidence with a shot that went wide. Gettins and Banks were doing good work, but still the Villa were most aggressive, and gave the Millwall backs plenty to do. Burgess playing in good form.
At the other end Dryburgh and Gettins were prominent.
Ten minutes from close Johnson found himself with an opening, and taking advantage of the opportunity scored for the Villa.
Excitement now ran high, the Leaguers making a tremendously big effort to equalise, but the Millwall defence prevailed, and the Southerners won, after a grand game, by two goals to one.
