MATCHDAY QUOTES
"Playing up in great style, Garraty piloted a couple of goals for the Villa, and just on time Wheldon, amid great excitement, pulled the match out of the fire by baiting Fryer for the third time."

ASTON VILLA v. DERBY COUNTY.
THE CHAMPIONS WIN IN THE LAST MINUTE.
Miserable weather prevailed in Birmingham on Saturday, snow falling throughout the entire progress of this encounter. The Villa played their most powerful eleven, while the County substituted Kilford at back for Staley.
The attendance would number 8,000. The visitors opened in surprising style, and had much the best of the game at the outset. Nineteen minutes from the start Bloomer scored for the County, and there was mild consternation amongst the home team’s supporters, as the strangers continued to hold their own and baffle all attempts to draw level.
Nothing further was scored before half-time, but shortly after crossing over George was beaten for the second time.
Playing up in great style, Garraty piloted a couple of goals for the Villa, and just on time Wheldon, amid great excitement, pulled the match out of the fire by baiting Fryer for the third time.
Result—Aston Villa, three goals; Derby County, two goals.
