Charlie Aston

Player #130 for Aston Villa, Charles Lane Aston, known as Charlie Aston played as a right back for the club.

Charlie played for Villa between 1897-98 and 1900-01.

Charlie was born in Bilston, just 11 miles from Villa Park, in 1875 and made his debut for the club as a 23 year old on the 30th April 1898.

Villa had signed Charlie from Walsall for £300 and he went on to make a total of 23 appearances across 3 seasons with the club.

During his time with Villa, Charlie won 3 major trophies: 2 League Championships in 1898-99 and 1899-00 as well as the Charity Shield.

Charlie’s contribution to the 1898-99 title winning season was to make 13 appearances and in the following season Charlie appeared on 3 occasions as Villa once again won the league.

Charlie would not make an appearance in the FA Cup for the club.

Charlie’s final appearance for Villa came on 16th March 1901 following which he moved to Queens Park Rangers.

Charlie played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.

Charlie passed away in Leytonstone in 9th January 1931 aged 56.
