ASTON VILLA v. STOKE.
Played at Aston. The visitors won the toss, but the Villa, who were well represented, attacked in fine form, and after Garratty had just missed with his head, Smith shot through from a rebound off Capewell's legs.
Soon afterwards Garratty hit the post, but he got possession again and added the second point. Stoke pressed, but failed to score.
Half-time : Aston Villa 2, Stoke 0.
The Villa were the first to show up the in the second half, and within two minutes Wheldon put the ball into the net.
From a penalty kick Robertson scored the first point for Stoke. The game continued to be fast and exciting, but the home term held their own and Wheldon scored again. Result: Villa 4, Stoke 1.
