NEWCASTLE UNITED v. ASTON VILLA.

At Newcastle, before 21,000 spectators. Garraty started for the Villa. Athersmith shot wide. The United forwards showed clever form, and George cleared from Gardiner. Peddie scored after eight minutes for the United. Rodgers giving him a nice pass, but Devey equalised from a pass by Smith.

Wardrope shot in, George saving smartly, and then the United got a corner. George saved again cleverly from the United's front rank.

Aston got their first corner after thirty-five minutes. The United forced another corner, which resulted fruitlessly. Off-side spoiled both teams. The Villa twice shot over the United's goal. Peddie scored from a foul.

Half-time:—United, 2 goals; Villa 1.

On resuming Peddie immediately tested George, who threw away. A free, kick for the Villa looked dangerous., but the United rushed the ball away, and Peddie fell when doing a solo run.

The United got another corner, Gardiner then scoring from close in, after seven minutes' play.
