On This Day
  • Villa record successive wins for the first time this season and the first time under the management committee structure.

  • Villa now have three wins in their last five games under the management committee as Dai Astley and Eric Houghton hit a brace apiece.

  • The game however is notable for the thuggery of the Portsmouth team and the failure of referee Jewell to sanction the behaviour. Villa though have the last laugh as a brace of penalties, both for violent play offences, win the game after Portsmouth had cancelled out Villa's quick start.

  • Villa make it seven wins, four draws and fourteen defeats in twenty five games in 1935-36.

  • Despite the win, Villa now have a single clean sheet in 31 games.
