Ronnie Dix

Player #354 for Aston Villa, Ronald William Dix, known as Ronnie Dix, played as an inside forward for the club.

Ronnie played for Villa between 1932-33 and 1936-37 making 103 appearances and scoring 30 goals.

Ronnie was born in Bristol on 12 September 1912 and made his debut appearance for Villa on the 6 May 1933 aged 20.

Villa had signed Ronnie from Blackburn Rovers alongside Arthur Cunliffe in May 1933, signing both for what was described as a substantial fee.

Both players made their debut in the final game of the 1932-33 season.

By the time of joining Villa Ronnie had become the youngest ever goalscorer in the Football League history, when he scored for Bristol Rovers aged 15 years and 180 days.

Ronnie’s performances with Villa didn’t disappoint although the team was struggling with form.

1933-34 saw Ronnie make 28 league appearances, scoring 5 goals and also helped Villa reach the Cup Semi Final with 5 FA cup appearances.

Ronnie would be a consistent presence in the Villa first team over his 4 full seasons including one, 1936-37, with the club in the second tier of English football for the first time. Ronnie hit 12 goals in just 18 appearances in Division Two, his best return for Villa.

Ronnie played his final game for Villa midway through the season on Saturday, 23 January 1937 still aged just 24. Ronnie moved on to Derby County in February 1937.

Ronnie had played under the Billy Smith led Management Committee, Villa’s first manager proper, Jimmy McMullan and his successor Jimmy Hogan.

Ronnie passed away in Bristol on 2nd April 1998 aged 85.
