George Beeson

Player #356 for Aston Villa, George William Beeson, played as a full back for the club.

George played for Villa between 1934-35 and 1936-37 making 70 appearances.

George was born in Clay Cross, Chesterfield on 31 August 1906 and made his debut appearance for Villa on the 25 August 1934 aged 28.

Villa had signed George from from Sheffield Wednesday earlier in August 1934 in a controversial swap deal that saw Villa favourite Joe Nibloe move the other way.

Despite his questionable arrival George was an immediate first teamer and was almost ever present through to the start of the following season.

The disastrous relegation season of 1935-35 saw George lose his place as Villa attempted to make up for shortcomings in the squad by bringing in George Cummings and Tom Griffiths. The plan did not work, and with Villa relegated to the second tier for the first time in their history, George returned to the first team.

George, however, was not the regular he once was and on 17 April 1937 he played his last game for Villa aged 30 before moving on to Walsall in June 1938.

George had played under Villa’s first manager proper, Jimmy McMullan and his successor Jimmy Hogan.

George passed away in Wythall, Worcestershire on 1st January 1999 aged 92.
