Player #363 for Aston Villa, Charles James Drinkwater, known as Charlie Drinkwater, played as a winger for the club in the outside left position.
Charlie played for Villa in 1935-36 making 2 appearances and scoring once.
Charlie was born in Willesden, London on 25 June 1914 and made his debut appearance for Villa on the 16 November 1935 aged 21, he went on to make his second and final appearance just 7 days later on 23 November 1935.
Villa had signed Charlie from Walthamstow Avenue as an amateur in August 1935, and signed as a professional in October 1935.
Although his Villa career was fleeting Charlie made an immediate impact on debut, scoring within three minutes of the kick-off against Chelsea.
The Straits Times reported that Charlie had โtrapped a centre with the coolness of a veteran, steadied himself and drove the ball into the netโ.
That however proved to be the high point of Charlieโs Villa career and he subsequently moved on to Charlton Athletic in August 1936.
Charlie played under manager Jimmy McMullan.
Charlie passed away in Denham on 8th April 1998 aged 83.
