Tommy Smart, suddenly stricken by Malaria from his war service in Gallipoli is taken ill, and Villa have no 12th man for his position.
A reshuffle is required and foward George Stephenson comes in whilst fellow forward Billy Kirton moves to full back.
Hardly ideal preparation but Frank Moss scores his second goal of the campaign as Villa record consecutive wins for the first time this season.
Villa make it four wins, seven draws and two defeats in their opening thirteen division one games.
