Billy Armfield

Player #305 for Aston Villa, William Charles Wassell Armfield, known as Billy Armfield, played as a winger for the club.

Billy played for Villa between 1923-24 and 1927-28 making 12 appearances and scoring twice.

Billy was born in Handsworth, less than 3 miles from Villa Park, on 7 July 1903 and he made his debut appearance for Villa on 15 March 1924 aged 20.

Villa had signed Billy from Ellison’s FC in August 1921 and Villa used him as an occasional back up player in the league across his 5 seasons.

Billy played his last game for Villa on 28 April 1928 before moving to Exeter City in June 1929.

Billy scored his 2nd goal for the club in his final game.

Billy had played under both the George Ramsay and Billy Smith led Management Committees.

Billy passed away in 1970 aged 67.
