Vic Milne

Player #297 for Aston Villa, Victor Edward Milne, known as Vic Milne played as a centre back for the club.

Vic played for Villa between 1923-24 and 1928-29 making 174 appearances and scoring once.

Vic was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on 22 June 1897 and he made his debut appearance for Villa on 15 September 1923 aged 26.

Villa had signed Vic from Aberdeen City in August 1923 as a back up to the emerging talent of Tommy Ball however the tragedy that was to claim Tommy’s life early in the 1923-24 season pushed Vic into the first team, a position he held with consistent performances leading him to become a key figure in the history of Aston Villa.

Vic’s best league finish was 3rd in 1928-29 but the closest he came to an honour was as Runner Up in the 1923-24 FA Cup final.

Vic, the son of the first chairman of Aberdeen, was a qualified doctor by the time he joined Villa and so his correct title would be Dr Milne.

When it came time to retire - Vic played his last game for Villa on 1 April 1929 aged 31 - he served as club doctor from 1930-33 and practiced as a local GP.

Vic had played under both the George Ramsay and Billy Smith led Management Committees.

Vic passed away in Little Aston, Sutton Coldfield on 6th September 1971 aged 74.
