Player #294 for Aston Villa, Cecil Vernon Harris, played as a full back for the club. Cecil played for Villa between 1922-23 and 1925-26 making 26 appearances over his 4 seasons.

Villa had signed Cecil from Llandrindod Wells in September 1922.

Cecil was born in Grantham on 1 October 1898 and he made his debut appearance for Villa on 16 December 1922 aged 24.

Cecil only ever featured in the league for Villa and was used mainly as a backup in his first 2 seasons, thereafter he was a semi regular, adding 29 appearances before moving on to Grimsby Town.

Cecil’s connection with Villa wasn’t over on his departure however, being the uncle of Villa great Eric Houghton who would go on to serve the club with such honour in the coming decades.

Cecil had played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.

Cecil passed away on 16th August 1976 aged 77.
