Percy Varco

Player #302 for Aston Villa, Percy Seymour Varco, nicknamed Saccho, played as a centre forward for the club.

Percy played for Villa in 1923-24 and 1924-25 making 10 appearances and scoring twice.

Percy was born in Fowey, Cornwall on 17 April 1904 and he made his debut appearance for Villa on 13 February 1924 aged 19.

Villa had signed Percy from Torquay United for a fee of £200 in December 1923.

Percy had played for his local side Fowey Town before moving on to Southern League Torquay United where he was spotted by Villa for his big break in League football.

Percy played 8 and scored twice in his second season with Villa ahead of a move to Queens Park Rangers in August 1926, having played his last game for Villa on 18 April 1925.

Although Percy didn’t hit goalscoring heights during his short spell with Villa, his subsequent career saw him do just that as he hit 47 league goals in just 65 games for Norwich City in the late 1920s and went on to achieve a similar feat in the following decade with Exeter City.

In later life Percy spent two spells as Mayor of Fowey.

Percy had played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.

Percy passed away in Fowey on 29th January 1982 aged 77.
