Joe was born in Stoke-on-Trent on 5 February 1906 and he made his debut appearance for Villa on 15 November 1924 aged 18.
Villa had signed Joe from Wolseley Motors in January 1924 and he went on to make 9 consecutive appearances as a replacement for injured fellow winger Dicky York.
Joe made his last appearance on 13 April 1925 before moving to West Ham United in August 1926.
Joe played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.
Joe passed away in 1970 aged 64.
