MATCH SUMMARY

Villa fall three behind as they are bundled out of the League Cup by third division Northampton as Mick Wright is dropped following his transfer request earlier in the day. Troubles mount on and off the pitch for Tommy Cummings. Wright, having played 142 games for Villa since his debut aged 16 cites his tiredness of playing in a struggling team whilst Dave Pountney - who after more then 100 appearances had made just one League appearance this season - also hands in a transfer request in the search for first team football.

KEY MAN

Tony Scott, scored a consolation as Villa are hammered by third division Northampton, Wednesday, 13 September 1967.

Tommy Cummings' Villa transfer their League form into the Cup losing to third division Northampton as they make it two wins in sixteen games, losing thirteen.

To make matters worse, Mick Wright was dropped from the team after demanding a transfer away from the club earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, centre forward John Inglis made his final Villa appearance aged 20 having only made his debut a month previously.

Inglis had joined Villa from Glenrothes FC before moving on to Crewe Alexandra in July 1968.
