Dave Pountney

Player #501 for Aston Villa, David Harold Pountney, known as Dave Pountney, played as a midfielder for the club in the wing half position.

Dave played for Villa between 1963-64 and 1967-68 making 130 appearances and scoring 7 goals.

Dave was born in Baschurch, Shrewsbury on 12 October 1939 and made his debut appearance for Villa on Saturday, 26 October 1963 aged 24.

Villa had signed Dave from Shrewsbury Town for a fee of £20,000 on 1 October 1963.

Dave became a regular fixture in the Villa first team however during the 5 seasons that Dave spent at Villa Park there was precious little success to speak of.

Dave’s Villa spent 4 seasons in the bottom 6 of Division One before succumbing to relegation to the second division in the 1967-68 season.

Dave would only appear twice in the 1967-68 Division Two season and played his final game for Villa on Saturday, 2 September 1967 aged 27 before returning to Shrewsbury Town in February 1968 for a fee of £10,000.

Dave had played under Villa managers Joe Mercer, Dick Taylor and Tommy Cummings.
