ON THIS DAY

Tommy Cummings' Villa continued their woeful form to make it two wins in seventeen games, losing fourteen under Cummings and his predecessor. As a result, Cummings had achieved just two wins and seven defeats in his first nine games of the season with Villa's prospects for the season looking very bleak indeed.

Meanwhile, winger Tony Scott made his final appearance for Villa aged 26 before moving on to Torquay United later this month.

Scott played for Villa between 1965-66 and 1967-68 making 57 appearances and scoring 5 goals.

TEAM NEWS

Mick Wright and Peter Broadbent and Barry Stobart replace Bobby Park, John Inglis and Keith Bradley.

The recall of Wright underlined the abject weakness that had infected the club as a want away player was rewarded with a first team place.
