Villa end Ron Atkinson's first season in charge in 7th place in the first division as the Midlands' only other top flight team escape relegation on the final day despite a comprehensive beating at Villa's hands.
Atkinson's first season in charge had seen them finish just behind Liverpool - the team they had challenged for the title two years earlier - and the campaign was much improved over the troubles experienced in the later stages of 1990-91.
Atkinson’s raft of new players had performed admirably and but for a spell of League games at the start of 1992 would have finished even further up the table.
1991-92 would, however, be the end of an era as the old divisional structure of football, which had been in place for over 100 years, was to be replaced from 1992-93 by the controversial Premier League.
As with the original football League, Villa would be founder members of the Premier League, but it didn’t come without concerns for the future health of the game at all levels.
Centre Forward Ian Olney, 22, makes his 114th and final appearance in a Villa shirt (83 Starts) before leaving for Oldham Athletic for a fee of £700,000 later this month with a record of W49 D26 L39, 21 Goals, 7 Assists, 7 Bookings and 1 Red Card at a goal involvement per game rate of one for every 4.07 games he has played so far in his Villa career.
Tony Daley contributes his 25th assists in a Villa shirt on his 241st appearance (206 Starts) to make it W88 D60 L93, 35 Goals and 25 Assists at a goal involvement rate of one for every 4.02 games he has played so far in his Villa career.
Cyrille Regis contributes his 15th goal involvement in a Villa shirt as he scores his third goal in six games to make it 46 Appearances, W19 D10 L17, 11 Goals and 4 Assists at a goal involvement rate of one for every 3.07 games he has played so far in his Villa career.

"Coventry have never won at Villa Park - and you wonder if they ever will - in 18 League games during their 25 years in the First Division."
VILLA did their best to put Midland rivals Coventry into Division Two.
Sky Blue old boy Cyrille Regis opened the scoring after only 20 seconds with a spectacular, header.
And Dwight Yorke hit a matching header later in the first half to underline Villa's superiority.
But lucky Coventry escaped the drop because of Luton's defeat at Notts County.
Coventry have never won at Villa Park - and you wonder if they ever will - in 18 League games during their 25 years in the First Division.
They weren't worrying about that last night. They were soundly beaten in a match they needed to win - yet still stayed up.
