MATCHDAY QUOTES
“When [Tony] Daley plays like that he would be the first name on the team sheet. I wish I could explain it.
“Although the fans enjoyed the goal, the pleasing thing for us was that he won possession in our half. Running 80 yards and scoring was the easy bit.
“The shot? I’d say it was cunningly placed.”
Ron Atkinson.

BRUCE Grobbelaar gifted Villa victory with another terrible blunder.
Two weeks ago he was blasted by Graeme Souness for his antics after handing Sheffield United two goals. And yesterday he made a hash of Tony Daley's 65th-minute shot.
After dispossessing Mike Marsh, Daley ran almost the length of the field before shooting from the corner of the box. His shot lacked any real power, but Grobbelaar could only watch in horror as the ball slipped through his hands and into the bottom corner.
Villa dominated the first half, but were unable to turn their possession into goals.
lan Olney caused Liverpool problems and Garry Parker's cross was nudged back towards Grobbelaar by Steve Nicol, but Olney nipped in to force the keeper into a fine save.
And three minutes before the break Matthias Breitkreutz hit a quick free kick to Olney, whose powerful shot was brilliantly saved by Grobbelaar.
Two minutes later Liverpool mounted a rare attack and Dean Saunders swept the ball into the net, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside.
