CYRILLE Regis and Dwight Yorke scored cracking Villa goals.
Then Tony Daley beat them both with a superb volley from 20 yards.
David White raised City hopes with a 65th minute header but they were soon swept away again.
Ron Atkinson, Villa boss, said: "It was a satisfying display. We showed our character and commitment to beat a good team."
Daley struck Villa's third goal after 70 minutes.
Playing as a striker in the absence of the injured Dalian Atkinson, Daley lashed in a left foot volley from just inside the penalty area.
Villa took charge after Cyrille Regis had headed in a cross from Steve Staunton after 26 minutes.
Winger Dwight Yorke added their second five minutes before half-time, heading in his sixth goal in seven games.
