What they Said
"The visitors again obtained the upper hand and obtained the upper hand and time after time made rings round the North End."
ASTON VILLA V. PRESTON NORTH END
These teams met on the ground of the latter, before 9,000 spectators. The Villa, losing the toss, kicked up hill and Ross immediately forced a corner out of Evans, Returning, Towie caused Warner to fist out, and then Athersmith shot too high.
The visitors played in magnificent form, Trainer saved from Athersmith twice in succession, and at the other end Warner fisted away from Gordon and Towie.
Devey sent in a beauty and Dickson followed with another, which Trainer dropped but just picked up again.
Dickson bothered Stewart a lot, and a fine run by Gordon was spoiled by Cox. Each end was visited In rapid succession, but the Villa had the hardest of luck A, header by Campbell just touched the post, and a lightning shot Athersmith, who had no one but Trainer in front of him, struck the upright.
Hislop beat Howarth and shot, but the leather passed wide, and Athersmith sent in another, which had a similar fate
At half-time neither side had scored.
North 'End, on resuming, played with a greater dash, and Gallacher, just as he looked dangerous was given offside.
The North End pressed for some time but the venue was again changed, and when the half was 11 minutes old Hislop scored with a beauty.
Drummond, at the other end, put the leather past, then Devey scored again, but he was given off side.
Athersmith was penalised for fouling Stewart and then Gordon had shocking luck, North End were now forcing the pace but always failed in from of goal. Gordon centre finely but Towie headed wide. Then Drummond shot too high. The visitors again obtained the upper hand and obtained the upper hand and time after time made rings round the North End.
Gallacher beat Evans, but Cox forced him to run out, and the game ended - Villa 1, North End 0.
