Reigning champions Villa record a fifth win in six in their title defence as they beat title rivals and leaders Manchester United.
Villa sweep their opponents aside for the entire game before a bizarre incident in the 79'.
Villa's Hunter tackles the onrushing West with precision and the opposition attacker balloons the ball out of play. Both players end up on the floor but as Hunter rises he is kicked repeatedly by West.
Referee Rowbothan suffers a rush of blood and orders the victim, Hunter, off the field of play and awards the visitors a penalty!
Not even his linesman could accept his decision and he quickly pointed out the true sequence of events and West was also ordered off, Villa though didn't have either the dismissal of Hunter or the penalty overturned.
Regardless, Villa take the lead at the top of the table with two games of the 1910-11 season left to play.
Both Villa and Manchester United sit on 50 points, Both have eight defeats however Villa have 22 wins to their opponents 21 and have a game in hand in two days' time at Ewood Park. Win that and the title is destined for Villa Park for the second successive season.
Villa make it twenty two wins, six draws and eight defeats in their thirty six division one games so far this season.
