Sammy Whittaker
Player #206 for Aston Villa, Samson Clement Whittaker, known as Sammy Whittaker, played as a forward for the club in the inside forward position.
Sammy played for Villa between 1908-09 and 1914-15.
Sammy was born in Shelfield, Walsall, just 10 miles from Villa Park, on 12th August 1888 and made his debut for the club at the age of 20 on the 19th October 1908.
Villa had signed Sammy from Bloxwich Strollers in April 1908.
Over his 7 seasons with Villa, Sammy made 68 appearances for Villa.
Although Sammy was on the books at Villa from 1908, he barely played for the club at first, in fact he didn’t play at all in the league title winning season of 1909-10 or the following season.
It was to be the 1911-12 season in which Sammy would make his first real impact on the Villa first team and he would go on to appear 27 times that season.
Sammy’s contribution led Villa to two runners up finishes in 1912-13 and 1913-14 and an FA Cup in 1912-13 - although he only featured twice in the campaign in the 1st and 3rd Rounds.
Sammy played his final game for Villa on 20th March 1915 aged 26 and after WWI he moved on to Walsall.
Sammy played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.
Sammy passed away in Wednesfield on 19th September 1952 aged 64.
