Chris represented Villa between 1906-07 and 1912-13.
Chris was born in Urmston on 9th November 1886 and made his debut for the club as a 19 year old on the 3rd September 1906
Villa had signed Chris from Brighton & Hove Albion in August 1906.
During his time with Villa Chris won the 1909-10 league title.
Chris made 37 appearances in the championship winning season however although he was still at Villa at the time Chris didn’t appear in the victorious 1912-13 FA Cup campaign,
In total Chris made 144 appearances for Villa over 7 seasons.
As well as the league title, Chris finished as league runners up 3 times, achieved a further top 5 finish and finished no lower than 7th in the league across his 7 seasons.
Villa sold Chris to Woolwich Arsenal having made his final appearance on 2nd September 1912.
After retiring, Buckley later returned to Villa, joining the club’s board of directors in 1936, and serving as chairman from 1955 to 1966. He stepped down as a director in 1967.
Chris had played his entire Villa career under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.
Chris passed away in Birmingham on 11 January 1973 aged 86.
