Brendel Anstey

Player #222 for Aston Villa, Brendel Anstey, played as a goalkeeper for the club. Brendel played for Villa between 1910-11 and 1914-15 making 45 appearances over his 5 seasons.

Brendel was born in Bristol on 1st November 1887 and made his debut appearance for Villa at the age of 23 on the 18th March 1911.

Brendel was the 25th custodian of the Villa goal in League and Cup football.

Villa had signed Brendel from Bristol Rovers in February 1911 in exchange for Jimmy Jones. At Rovers Brendel had acted as understudy to future Villa keeper Arthur Cartlidge (h/t to Mike Jay of Bristol Rovers History Group).

Over his 45 games, Brendel conceded 68 goals at a rate of 1.51 goals per game.

Brendel played his final game on 14th November 1914 aged 27 before moving to Leicester Fosse in 1915.

Brendel played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.

Brendel passed away in Wednesbury on 12th December 1933 aged just 46.
