MATCH TIMELINE

ON THIS DAY

Reigning champions Villa record their ninth successive win in their title defence to make it eleven wins, two draws and two defeats in their fifteen division one games so far this season.

Villa’s nine game consecutive league winning run is a record that would not be broken until the 2018-19 season, 118 years later, when Villa, under local boy Dean Smith recorded ten successive wins in the second tier of English football to help Villa gain promotion back to the top flight after an absence of three years.

Meanwhile, forward Horace Henshall made his Villa debut aged 21 after joining from Bridgetown Amateurs as a 16 year old in May 1906.
